People tend to hide the things they dislike about themselves, the things they refuse to accept is true.

To be scrutinized and judged is frightening and it makes them less likely to reveal any "hidden self"

There are so many astrological profiles of Scorpios that paint this ridiculous picture by making generalizations that they're almost laughable. I like joking about being evil squared since my rising sign and my sun sign are both Scorpio, but to me it's more poking fun at the stereotypes and generalizations that I find to not be true.
Apparently we're all brooding goths who sacrifice small children and worship the devil, wear all black, and are into S&M underneath.

But to go to opposite and deny scorpios connection with the dark side its ignorance as well.
Scorpio is associated with the dark aspects of human psychology more than other, flighty signs, couse those flighty signs are affraid to face a darkens within themself and others. So they go on and live carefee, but are only half alive ,couse they dont get to the core.
Scorpio can go from extreme hights to extreme lows, live and feel its emotions in full range from heaven to hell.
Not all scorpios are intrested in occult but it does comes in package with the sign,but of course it all depends on a person, yada,yada -

As you stated in your last sentence, "...of course it depends on a person." My commentary was more in agreement with someone on stereotypes and generalizations, ones that I sometimes find laughable. -

I'm not personally knocking people who are goth, though it's not really my cup of tea. I also appreciate early Bauhaus, but I find that it fits in particularly well with a lot of late 70s/early 80s post-punk stuff that I'm into. -

I don't think even the scorpio knows for sure. Perhaps it's a big lump of mush and vulnerability that the scorpio protects with fervor. Whatever it is, it's likely to be different for every scorpio, but certainly worthy of protecting.
